Call Your Local Council
First and foremost, contact your local council as they are legally responsible for stray dogs and may well have picked up your pet. Find out your local council and visit their official portal to get the contact number. If you are unsure about who you should approach, please seek help online or seek advice from the animal shelters in your area. Thereafter, notify your local council and ask the address of the dog pound. Don't forget to ask the details of procedure for reclaiming your lost pet.
Visit The Dog Pound
It is important to visit your local council pound as soon as you can. Please take note that the local dog pounds generally hold a lost or stray animal for 1 or 2 weeks. After this time, dogs will be euthanized if no home can be found for them. We advise you to visit the dog pound as soon as possible if you suspect your beloved dog got caught by local authority. You may bring along any documentation which can help identify your lost pet, including proof of council registration and photographs. Keep in mind that a “redemption fee” is required. According to our sources, dog owners have to pay RM 40 to RM 200 if they want to get their furry kids back from local authority or local dog pound. Thus, get your wallet ready when you are going to visit the dog pound. *Location of DBKL's dog pound: opposite Viva Mall Cheras
