Pomeranian Dog Breed Introduction

The Pomeranian, often referred to as a pom, is a little dog breed of Spitz. Pom weighs between 3 and 7 pounds and is around 7 to 12 inches. Pom has a long, thin coat that can be found in many varieties of colours such as orange, red, spotted, cream, black, and white. This breed carries its plum-like tail flat on its back. Pomeranians have short, pointed snout, small and upright sharp ears. Pomeranian is classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size.

Pomeranian Origin

Initially used as a sled dog in Lapland, they were brought to Pomerania, now part of Poland and Germany in the sixteenth century. Their early ancestor was significantly larger than the present dog and weighed 30 lbs or more. Although Mozart and Marie Antoinette kept Pomeranians, it was Queen Victoria who was accountable for breeding the dogs to a smaller size. These little Pomeranians became very popular and were officially recognized in 1900. This breed has been ranked among the top twenty most popular breeds in the USA, and the present craze for small dogs has increased their popularity worldwide. If you are looking for a lap dog, Pomeranian dogs are what you are looking for! They have a brilliant personality and are simple to get along with.
